Arsenal keen on signing Milan forward Rafael Leao
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing AC Milan ace Rafael Leao, as per transfer expert Mike Brown.
The Gunners were Liverpool’s main competitor for the Premier League title this season. But since the Reds won the league, Mikel Arteta’s side were struggling to accumulate points.
As a result, they were even at risk of missing out on the second position, but having defeated Newcastle United last weekend, the North London club have pretty much secured the second place.
In the meantime, the summer window is only a couple of weeks away, and clubs from all around Europe have already started making moves to bolster their squads.
It has been reported that Arsenal are keen on spending big this summer to help Arteta win big silverware next season. Purchasing a new centre-forward is their priority, but hiring a new wide forward is also on the Spanish boss’s agenda.
Now, speaking on Football Insider, Brown says that Arsenal are interested in Leao to bolster the left flank and have been monitoring the Portuguese’s performances before making a potential swoop.
Leao to Arsenal
The former scout further claims that Arsenal don’t have many players like Leao, who likes to go at the opposition defenders and can make a difference going forward. Only Saka can do that, so purchasing Leao would be the right decision.
Brown said:
“Rafael Leao is one of the players Arsenal have been looking at. They have been looking at him since the start of the season and potentially beyond that, because it’s a position they are aware they have problems in.
“These decisions are made in the background over a period of time, they’re not reactionary. So they’ve been working behind the scenes, scouting him and figuring out what it would take to sign him. He’s very direct, quick and skilful which is exactly the type of winger they’re looking for.
“He likes to go at his man, stretch teams and make a difference going forward. I think Arsenal have lacked that type of player this season because apart from Saka they don’t have decisive players in the final third who will make a difference.“
The forward is valued at around £63m by Transfermarkt and has three years left in his current contract. Therefore, the Rossoneri won’t let him leave for cheap.
Leao has enjoyed a successful time at Milan over the years, winning a Scudetto title and Supercoppa Italiana. In 50 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 12 goals and registered 11 assists this season.
The 25-year-old can be unplayable on his day, but he can be inconsistent at times. Moreover, his work rate off the ball is very poor. Therefore, the Emirates club need to be careful about these factors before making any potential swoop for him, considering he won’t come cheap.
