Arsenal lead race for Shamrock Rovers star Ozhianvuna
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Shamrock Rovers youngster Victor Ozhianvuna.
Reports from the Irish Independent claim the Gunners have made the strongest move so far.
The club has long been known for developing young players and giving them chances at the top level. This strategy has produced several top talents in the past.
Ozhianvuna has caught the eye of several clubs across Europe and the Premier League.
He has mainly played as an attacking full-back but is expected to play in central midfield long-term – similar to Gunners star Myles Lewis-Skelly.
The Irish Independent reports that Arsenal have shown the most serious interest in signing the 16-year-old talent. The club have been watching him closely since 2023.
He stood out during the under-14s Hale End Cup, where he helped Shamrock Rovers win the tournament.
They beat several Premier League academy teams on their way to the title.
Long-term view with pre-contract possible
So far this season, Ozhianvuna has made six appearances in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
He also played in the UEFA Conference League for Shamrock Rovers.
Due to his age, any move to the Premier League must follow a pre-contract plan. A full transfer would not be allowed until he turns 18 in January 2027.
Clubs in England would have to wait, but an agreement could be reached this summer.
That would ensure the player joins in 18 months, once eligible under FIFA rules.
However, European clubs could move earlier due to different regulations.
They are allowed to sign players like Ozhianvuna before they turn 18, under certain conditions.
Despite this, the report says many clubs are open to a long-term plan. It is believed Arsenal’s structured and patient approach is seen as the most attractive.
Ozhianvuna has been compared to Myles Lewis-Skelly due to his skill and versatility. Though he started out wide, his future is likely to be in central midfield.
Arsenal will hope their track record with young players such as Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri gives them the edge. They aim to secure an agreement now and develop him the right way over time.
