Arsenal eye Delap as support for marquee striker
Arsenal are looking to make big moves in the upcoming transfer window and have identified Liam Delap as a potential signing.
Reports from Football Transfers state that the Gunners want to bring in two strikers this summer. One will be a top-level forward, while the other will act as a supporting option.
Delap has now been added to Arsenal’s shortlist for the second role. He could arrive to work alongside a marquee name like Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres.
The club’s new sporting director Andrea Berta is leading the summer transfer efforts.
He has changed Arsenal’s approach from signing raw young players to targeting more experienced and ready-made talents.
This shift in direction has reportedly ended the club’s interest in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
Delap has had a standout season with Ipswich Town. Even though the club are battling relegation, he has impressed with 12 goals and 2 assists in the top flight.
Delap also attracting interest from Premier League giants
The 22-year-old has drawn interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
These teams are also keeping an eye on the Englishman ahead of the summer window.
Delap’s mix of strength, speed and movement has made him one of the best young forwards in the league this season.
According to Transfermarkt, the striker is valued at around £30 million. He could prove to be a smart addition for Arsenal, especially in a backup role.
The Gunners believe that playing alongside a top striker could help Delap grow further while adding depth to their attack.
Arsenal’s plan is clear. They want to sign a star name but also bring in someone with potential to help across all competitions.
Delap ticks that box, and he could be the next rising talent to join the north London side this summer.
The report adds that Delap has joined Ollie Watkins on Arsenal’s striker shortlist as part of Berta’s updated transfer strategy.
The club’s ambition under Berta is to win now. Every signing will be made with that goal in mind.
