Arsenal played out a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday evening, dealing a heavy blow to their Premier League title hopes this season.
This draw is Arsenal’s twelfth in the league, and it has significantly harmed their chances of catching Liverpool.
The result leaves Mikel Arteta’s men trailing behind at a key stage of the title race. Their inconsistent form in the league has once again proven costly.
Despite the disappointment, Arsenal now turn their full attention to Europe. They hold a strong 3-0 advantage over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
The second leg will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu in just three days. Arsenal must defend their lead if they hope to reach the semi-final.
Real Madrid’s players have expressed confidence ahead of the second leg, with the Spanish giants aiming to overturn the scoreline in front of their fans.
Arsenal will need to stay focused and field their strongest team to avoid a dramatic exit from the competition.
Partey Doubtful After Brentford Clash
Midfielder Thomas Partey is now a doubt for the trip to Madrid after picking up a knock against Brentford on Saturday.
The Ghanaian played the entire 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Real Madrid at the Emirates last Tuesday.
He was one of the few starters from that Champions League win to start again in the league at the weekend.
Partey scored Arsenal’s only goal against Brentford while playing as a right-back in a rotated side.
However, he was taken off after feeling discomfort before Brentford equalised through Yoane Wissa.
“He felt something so we did not want to take any risks,” Arteta said after the match. “We do not know, I have not spoken to the doctors yet. So they will check him now and see how he is.”
Arsenal are already without Kai Havertz and Gabriel Magalhaes, both of whom are nursing injuries, while Gabriel Jesus won’t play again until later this year following knee surgery.
Ben White also missed the Brentford game, leaving Arsenal short on key defensive options ahead of the return leg in Madrid.
Arteta will be hoping for good news from the medical team as he prepares his side for a huge European test.
