Arsenal hold ‘concrete talks’ to sign Bayern star Leroy Sane
Arsenal have reportedly held ‘concrete talks’ over a deal to sign Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane, as per German football expert Florian Plettenberg.
The 29-year-old’s future has been a subject of attention in recent months as his existing deal with the Bavarian club will expire at the end of this season. Initially, he found himself out of favour under Vincent Kompany this season, following the arrival of Michael Olise last summer, which fueled the speculation even further.
However, he has scored three goals in the last two league appearances. Overall, he has made 15 goal contributions in 19 starts in all competitions this term.
Now, writing on X, Plettenberg says that Bayern Munich have been impressed by Sane’s recent performances and have been in negotiations with him over a fresh term.
The forward wants to stay and is willing to take a pay cut to make that happen. However, both parties haven’t been able to reach an agreement yet.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal are waiting in the wings as they are ‘seriously interested’ in signing Sane as a free agent. They have even held ‘concrete talks’ over a deal to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Sane to Arsenal
The forward is a left-footed right winger but is also comfortable in the right flank. He is a serial winner as he has already won numerous major silverware with Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Mikel Arteta previously worked with the player during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad Stadium. Therefore, he knows about the player’s qualities and how to bring the best out of him.
Sane, valued at around £32m by Transfermarkt, was an explosive winger at Man City but hasn’t been the same since his serious knee issue. Since then, he has continued to struggle with fitness problems.
Signing a new forward to support Bukayo Saka has been a long-standing desire of Arteta but following Ethan Nwaneri’s emergence, that need isn’t as important as it was before.
Therefore, Arsenal would be better off exploring options to strengthen other areas of the pitch. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to secure Sane’s service this summer.
