Arsenal are at Old Trafford to take on Manchester United this afternoon needing a win to cement our position in second place in the Premier League table.
Liverpool rather fortunate comeback win over Southampton on Saturday means we now trail the run-away leaders by 16 points. Even if we win our two games in hand, it’s still going to be very difficult to catch Liverpool so our immediate focus needs to be tightening our grip on second.
Nottingham Forest are now just three points behind after beating Manchester City on Saturday so Arsenal need a win over United this afternoon to restore our six point advantage.
Mikel Arteta still has very few options to rotate in attack with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz all still injured. However, Gabriel Martinelli is back on the bench as he looks to make his return from a hamstring injury.
The onus is on Ethan Nwaneri and Leandro Trossard to provide threat from the wings while Mikel Merino continues as a makeshift striker up front.
Our stunning 7-1 win at PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last week should have given the players plenty of confidence that they can score goals against United today after drawing a blank in our last two league games.
In midfield, Thomas Partey continues alongside Declan Rice with Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard completing the trio in the middle of the park.
The one key change is at left-back with Riccardo Calafiori coming in for Myles Lewis-Skelly after the youngster narrowly avoided another red card against PSV.
These are the teams:
Arsenal
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Ødegaard; Nwaneri, Trossard, Merino.
Subs: Neto, White, Zinchenko, Tierney, Lewis-Skelly, Kiwior, Jorginho, Martinelli, Sterling.
Man Utd
Onana; Yoro, De Ligt, Lindelof; Mazraoui, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot; Zirkzee, Garnacho; Hojlund
Subs: Harrison, Mee, Amass, Heaven, Collyer, Eriksen, J. Fletcher, Moorhouse, Obi
