Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Larsson, as per German football expert Florian Plettenberg.
The Gunners have displayed inconsistent performances this season, sitting second in the Premier League table with 54 points from 27 games. They are currently 13 points behind the table topper Liverpool.
Moreover, they have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. Still, they can end the season successfully by winning the Champions League trophy.
Arsenal have been drawn to play against PSV Eindhoven in the last-16 of this competition and thrashed the Eredivisie giants 7-1 in the first leg at Philips Stadion.
Therefore, they have pretty much secured the quarter-final spot and will play against Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid with Los Blancos winning the first leg 2-1.
In the meantime, the summer window is approaching and Arsenal have seemingly started planning to bolster the squad.
Larsson to Arsenal
Writing on X, Plettenberg says that Arsenal want to reinforce the engine room and have identified Larsson as a serious option. But, the Swedish international isn’t the only option on Mikel Arteta’s radar as Joshua Kimmich and Martin Zubimendi are also targets.
However, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Kimmich as well and have already submitted a formal proposal to secure his service as a free agent.
Arsenal want a new striker this summer and are looking to reinforce the engine room as well because Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s futures are currently uncertain. Both have entered the final few months of their respective contracts.
Larsson is comfortable in the holding midfield position and is also efficient in the box-to-box role. He is a talented player and possesses high potential so he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in signing the 20-year-old as Frankfurt reportedly want £42m for his signature.
Meanwhile, after beating PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal will face off against Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.
