Arsenal started the season with the ambition of winning the Premier League title this campaign but their performances haven’t been upto the standard to suggest that they would be able to achieve that this term.
The Gunners have been winless in the last three consecutive games in all competitions. They lost to Newcastle United 2-0 in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final last week before losing to Man Utd on penalties in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend.
Amid this situation, Arsenal will welcome arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium tonight.
Mikel Arteta’s side have accumulated 40 points from 20 games. On the other hand, Spurs have had a disappointing first half of this term, languishing in the bottom half of the table with 24 points from 20 matches.
Team news
Ben White, Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been out injured in recent weeks. Arteta has hinted that a few of those players could be able to return for this game but starting a game of this magnitude straightaway would be difficult. But, it is unlikely Saka would be available just yet.
Riccardo Calafiori was absent in the last game but is likely to be available for this encounter. But, the bad news is that Gabriel Jesus has sustained a serious knee injury and as a result, his season is all but over. Jurrien Timber and Jorginho limped off last time out but they are healthy to feature tonight.
Predicted line-up
David Raya is expected to keep hold of his place between the sticks, while William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are likely to be the centre-back pairing for the hosts.
Timber should be in the right-back position, while Calafiori may return to the starting eleven by replacing Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Thomas Partey would be in the holding midfield position and Declan Rice should commence alongside him, pushing Martin Odegaard in the attacking midfield position. Therefore, Jorginho and Mikel Merino could be among the substitutes.
Leandro Trossard is likely to be on the left flank, while Gabriel Martinelli would be on the opposite side. Kai Havertz is set to be deployed in the centre-forward position despite displaying a poor performance last time out.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Tottenham
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Trossard, Havertz, Martinelli
