Confirmed line-ups: Arsenal vs Newcastle – Key duo return for Gunners
Arsenal entertain Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium tonight in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final.
Mikel Arteta has seen his squad decimated in recent weeks so he’s not been able to rotate as much as he probably wanted to tonight. The Spanish coach continues to be without the services of Bukayo Saka as he’s facing weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are also still out while Ethan Nwaneri has joined the treatment room after pulling a muscle at the weekend.
However, Kai Havertz is able to return to the squad after missing the last two matches due to illness. The German international starts up front tonight allowing Gabriel Jesus a rest.
Raheem Sterling is also back after recovering from a knee injury and the on-loan winger gives Arsenal another attacking option from the bench.
David Raya starts between the sticks for Arsenal while Jurrien Timber is back from a one-game ban. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes line-up in the middle of defence with Myles Lewis-Skelly replacing Riccardo Calafiori at left-back.
Skipper Martin Odegaard has been struggling with illness lately and was on the bench for the draw at Brighton last time out. However, he’s fit to return to the starting eleven tonight which is a huge boost for Arsenal.
Thomas Partey moves into midfield alongside Declan Rice while Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard line-up on the wings.
These are the line-ups:
Arsenal
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Trossard, Havertz, Martinelli
Subs: Porter, Zinchenko, Tierney, Kiwior, Calafiori, Jorginho, Merino, Sterling, Jesus.
Newcastle

Subs: Vlachodimos, Trippier, Barnes, Targett, Osula, Almiron, Kelly, Longstaff, Miley
