Arsenal enjoyed a promising start to this season after winning back-to-back games in the opening two Premier League encounters.
However, they entered the international break following a disappointing draw over Brighton and Hove Albion and things aren’t quite rosy at the Emirates Stadium at the moment due to injury problems and suspension issues.
Arsenal will have to face a tough run of fixtures over the next seven days as they will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday before travelling to Bergamo to face off against Atalanta in the opening Champions League games of this term next week.
Following that, they will take on Manchester City in the league at Etihad Stadium next weekend. So, the injury issues could impact on their on-field displays.
Team news
Mikel Merino broke his shoulder in training so he has been out injured in recent weeks and is likely to remain sidelined in this encounter as well.
Moreover, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Jesus were out injured due to their respective problems in the last few games but Mikel Arteta has said that the Brazilian could be available to feature in this game as he has started training with the full squad.
More injury problems have started to emerge ahead of this fixture as Martin Odegaard sustained an ankle issue during international duty with Norway and he is a major doubt for this game but Arteta hasn’t ruled out the possibility of him featuring this weekend.
Riccardo Calafiori also picked up an injury during international duty with Italy and he is in doubt ahead of this game. Additionally, Declan Rice was shown a red card last time out versus Brighton and he is suspended for this fixture.
Predicted line-up
Mikel Arteta might need to tweak his system a bit to field his team in this fixture if Odegaard can’t feature with Rice also out but David Raya is set to remain between the sticks.
Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba would continue at the heart of Arsenal’s backline, while Ben White and Jurrien Timber should be the two fullbacks.
Arteta could go with the double midfield pivot of Thomas Partey and Jorginho to keep a strong base with Leandro Trossard in the attacking midfield position.
Gabriel Martinelli could be on the left-wing role, while Bukayo Saka should be on the opposite side. Kai Havertz would be leading the line for the Gunners and Jesus might not be ready to start a game just yet so he could feature off the bench.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Tottenham
Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Partey, Jorginho; Martinelli, Trossard, Saka; Havertz
