Arsenal Want Conte To Replace Wenger
Some interesting news doing the rounds in the newspapers today with the Express one of several media outlets claiming that Arsenal have made Juventus coach Antonio Conte their No.1 target to replace Arsene Wenger if he leaves next summer.
Wenger has just 9 months left to run on his current contract and has admitted he’s in no rush to open talks over an extension. The Frenchman hinted recently that his future will depend on how well the team does this season.
Now what he feels qualifies as success is open to interpretation but I’m guessing that if we fail to qualify for the top four and don’t win a trophy, Wenger won’t be our manager next season. He may even feel it’s time to call it a day if we scrape fourth again like last year. Who knows.
There are also large sections of Arsenal fans who feel a change of leadership is required now, so it’s safe to say that Wenger’s tenure is certainly in the balance and it seems the club is starting to draw up plans for who could take over should we find ourselves without a manager come June.
The Express claim the man we’ve identified is Juve’s Antonio Conte – who’s led the Italians to successive Serie A titles so he certainly has pedigree.
When the day comes to replace Wenger, be it this summer or in another 5 years, Conte and Klopp are two men I’d love to see take. But it remains to be seen whether either would be willing to give up their current projects to come to the Emirates.
Who would you like to see replace Wenger when he eventually leaves?
