Arsenal hold talks to sign Victor Osimhen this summer

Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen this summer, as per the Italian outlet Il Roma.

Having moved to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium from LOSC Lille back in 2020, the Nigerian has established himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A over the last few years, helping his side win the Scudetto last year.

However, it has been reported that after showcasing his qualities in the Italian top-flight, he is willing to leave Napoli this summer to take a new challenge in his career.

According to the report by Il Roma, Osimhen is keen on playing in the Premier League and the Gunners have already held talks with the player’s representatives regarding a potential move this summer.

The report states that Chelsea were previously interested in signing him but have now ‘slipped away’, while Paris Saint-Germain are closely following his current situation but hasn’t made a move yet.

Osimhen to Arsenal

It has been reported that Osimhen has a £101m release clause included in his current contract and considering Napoli usually plays hardball to sell their players, it won’t be easy for Arsenal to get this deal done if they formalise their interest.

The Napoli star is quick, strong, excellent in the air, has the poacher’s instinct inside the box and also works extremely hard without possession. So, he possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League and has showcased his qualities at the highest level, therefore, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal should they secure his signature.

However, Osimhen has struggled with fitness problems in recent times and given he is set to cost big, Arsenal should be careful before making any potential swoop for him.

It has been reported that the Gunners are prioritising signing a new striker this summer and have been linked with Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Joshua Zirkzee along with Osimhen.

So, it is going to be interesting to see who will eventually move to the Emirates Stadium in this summer window – which is set to open tomorrow – to reinforce the North London club’s attacking department.
