Arsenal offer Joshua Zirkzee bumper £5.1m-a-year deal
According to Calcio Mercato, Arsenal are ready to offer Joshua Zirkzee a bumper £5.1m-a-year contract as they look to win the race for his signature this summer.
Widespread reports in recent months have suggested that Mikel Arteta is in the market for a new striker ahead of the summer transfer window.
Sunday’s costly 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa only heightened calls for Arsenal to sign a clinical striker. The Gunners should have been 2-3 goals ahead at half-time but wasteful finishing cost them dearly, as Villa scored twice in the second half to derail Arsenal’s title push.
So, many feel the Gunners desperately need another option in attack and Zirkzee has been strongly touted as a target. The Bologna attacker has attracted the attention of prominent European clubs. He’s not yet that prolific a goal scorer; he’s only managed 11 goals and 6 assists in 33 appearances, but his general performances have been hugely impressive.
He influences games with his exceptional technical ability, which allows him to drop into midfield link-up play and, like a false nine, generate opportunities for his teammates. His defensive contributions are also appreciated.
Zirkzee to get bumper deal
It’s been reported that Arsenal face competition to sign the Dutch hitman, with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, and Bayern Munich also linked with a move.
However, it appears Arsenal are ready to flex their financial power as Calciomercato claims the North Londoners are ‘ready to offer’ Zirkzee a contract worth £5.1m-a-year to beat off rivals for his signature.
According to reports, Bologna are demanding approximately £68 million to let the Dutchman go, so a deal won’t be cheap.
With Arsenal’s No. 9 Gabriel Jesus scoring only four league goals this season, it’s clear the Gunners need a better striker option to fire them to glory.
Given Arsenal’s willingness to give Zirkzee a lucrative contract, it seems Arteta is keen to lure him to the Emirates Stadium to help boost his attacking options next season.
Will Arsenal be able to get a deal agreed? Only time will tell….
