Arsenal express interest in signing Man City star Cancelo
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City star Joao Cancelo this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are set to remain active in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce the squad and continue performing at their best next season.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on strengthening several areas of the squad but signing a new right-back is seemingly on his wish-list as Arsenal have been linked with a few names in recent times. Jeremie Frimpong and Ferdi Kadioglu have been mentioned as serious targets with Cancelo on their radar as well.
After joining Man City from Juventus, Cancelo established himself as a key player in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven, helping his side win numerous major titles.
However, after falling out with Guardiola, the Portuguese have been moving around Europe in recent times. He was initially loaned out to Bayern Munich last term but the Bavarian club eventually opted not to make the move permanent.
Cancelo to Arsenal
Now, Cancelo has been sent out on loan to Barcelona, however, it has been suggested that the Blaugrana might not be able to acquire his service permanently by matching the Citizens’ valuation.
According to the report Sport, Man City want a fee of more than £34m to cash-in on Cancelo and they will sell him to that team whichever submit the highest bid. The report further claims that Arsenal are interested in signing him and along with the Gunners, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and a few Saudi Arabian clubs are also plotting a swoop.
However, Sport states that Cancelo is keen on staying at Barcelona so the defender hasn’t started talking with any other club yet. So, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal can eventually manage to persuade him to move to the Emirates Stadium should they formalise their interest.
Cancelo is a top-class player and has already showcased his qualities at the highest level over the last few years so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they can eventually manage to acquire his service in the upcoming transfer window.
