Viktor Gyokeres opens up possible Arsenal move
Viktor Gyokeres, as per Fotbollskanalen via Football Transfers, has finally spoken out about the transfer rumours linking him with a number of top clubs, including Arsenal.
The Swede only joined Sporting Lisbon last summer on a £20 million transfer from Coventry. However, he’s been nothing short of amazing with the Green and Whites — in 40 games with them, he has 36 goals and 14 assists.
His impressive form has piqued the interest of a number of top clubs, with Arsenal among those strongly linked with a move for Gyokeres ahead of the summer window. Widespread reports in recent weeks have named the Sporting hitman as a key target for Arteta.
Gyokeres on his future
Gyokeres has now spoken out on the rumours and admitted that ‘its fun’ to be linked to top clubs as it’s a sign that he’s performing well on the pitch. He also said ‘we’ll see’ what happens in the summer.
However, the Swedish international insists he’s focussed on continuing his fine form for Sporting and isn’t distracted by rumours about his future.
“It’s a sign that I’ve performed well. But it’s not something I take too seriously, since it’s just speculation. But of course it’s fun,” Gyokeres told Fotbollskanalen.
“We’ll see this summer. It’s not something I know about myself, what will happen. I enjoy Sporting extremely well and feel no stress about the summer coming quickly.”
“It is clear that what I have done has attracted attention, but it is not really my focus in everyday life. But of course it’s fun that I have fans who appreciate what I’ve done.”
As Arteta’s project moves forward, Arsenal need to bolster their attack this summer with a striker. The Gunners have lacked a clinical finisher at times this season and a world class hitman could take the team to the next level.
Gyokeres has certainly proven himself to be a lethal striker this season and with The Mirror suggesting he could be sold for £69 million this summer, he could be a realistic target for Arsenal.
We’ll have to wait and see who Arteta and Edu end up going for, but Gyokeres ticks a lot of boxes and could be an excellent addition to the Gunners squad.
