Arsenal show ‘greatest interest’ in striker Viktor Gyokeres
As per A Bola (via Sport Witness), Arsenal’s pursuit of a top striker could now be focused on Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.
In the summer, the Gunners are expected to recruit a top striker. The only uncertainty is who that will be. Last week, a list of four potential striker signings was dropped. Viktor Gyokeres, Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen, and Joshua Zirkzee made the list.
Arsenal fans may be excited about the possibility of signing any of these four, but there may be a preferred choice. A Bola suggests that Gyokeres could be the top target for the North Londoners this summer.
Sporting Lisbon signed the Swedish international from Championship side Coventry last summer. After scoring 21 goals and providing 12 assists in 49 Championship games, the 22-year-old’s performance convinced the Portuguese giants to close his deal, which amounted to approximately £17 million.
21 league games into the 2023–24 Primeira Liga, Gyokeres has been exceptional, scoring 31 and supplying a further 11 assists in 34 games in all competitions so far.
Understandably, he has gained significant interest from top clubs with Arsenal reportedly among those chasing his signature. There’s a belief that Sporting CP could hold out for his £86 million release clause.
Arsenal lead chase for Gyokeres
A Bola claims that Arsenal are ‘increasingly likely’ to launch a swoop for Viktor Gyokeres in the summer. They claim the Gunners, along with PSG, have taken notice of the player and are ”closely monitoring” his progress.
That revelation clearly outlines that the Gunners (and maybe PSG) are the top contenders to sign the Swedish hitman. Arsenal scouts must be suitably impressed with what they’ve been seeing while tracking the ex-Coventry striker.
Arsenal’s attack is in need of a clinical striker, and Gyokeres’ statistics undeniably indicate that he fits the bill. Looking to maintain their upward trajectory each season, signings such as Gyokeres could be crucial for Arsenal’s progress.
