Arsenal legend Ian Wright has raised concern about one thing that the Gunners did during their thrilling victory over Luton Town.
The Gunners took on the Hatters on Tuesday night and enjoyed a brilliant start by going ahead midway through the first half. However, Rob Edwards’ side fought back brilliantly and equalised the game.
Soon after, Arsenal went ahead for the second time and the scoreline was 2-1 at the interval. However, the host enjoyed a bright start in the second half and scored quickfire two goals.
But, Luton’s lead didn’t last long as Kai Havertz equalised the game for Arsenal at the hour mark. However, when it looked like the game was going to end in a statement, Declan Rice stepped up and scored a stoppage-time winner to help his side come away with all three points.
Mikel Arteta’s side displayed a dominating performance versus Luton, however, the Spaniard would be concerned about his team’s defensive display in this fixture.
Pundit raises concern about Arsenal’s defence
Now, speaking on The Overlap, Wright has raised concern about Arsenal’s marking during set-piece situations – from where Luton scored twice. The pundit says that Arsenal are a big team but it’s concerning how Gabriel Martinelli ended up marking Gabriel Osho – who scored the first goal.
The former striker further says that it was very easy for the Luton star to score and he didn’t even need to jump to head the ball back of the net.
Wright said:
“Last night’s one was a worry, simply because I thought we were very much in control of the game. The first goal was a real worry for me, because the marking, with such a big side as well, you’ve got Gabriel Martinelli taking Osho. And you just feel like that doesn’t feel right. He didn’t even have to get off the ground to head the ball in. That didn’t feel good. It just felt, I didn’t like that.”
Although Arsenal conceded three goals, two of those came due to David Raya’s poor mistakes. So, there is nothing to worry about yet regarding the backline as the Gunners’ defence have been one of the best in the league so far this term.
