Arsenal agree deal in principle with West Ham to sign Rice
Arsenal have reportedly agreed on a British record £105m deal with West Ham United to sign Declan Rice and the midfielder is now set to undergo medical this week before the deal gets finalised, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have prioritised bolstering their engine room this summer and have identified the England international as the primary target.
Mikel Arteta’s side initially submitted two bids worth up to £90m to sign the 24-year-old but the Hammers rejected both offers. However, Arsenal’s final proposal of around £100m guaranteed fee plus £5m in add-ons has turned out to be enough to persuade David Moyes’ side to let their star man leave this summer.
Writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that West Ham have accepted the Gunners’ final proposal and the deal is now agreed between the two clubs.
The journalist further claims, in a different Tweet, that Rice is now set to undergo medical this week after agreeing on personal terms with the North London club last night.
Rice to Arsenal
Romano also says that after purchasing the 24-year-old, Arsenal will now allow Granit Xhaka to leave the club and he is expected to join Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Romano wrote:
“Arsenal are planning for medical tests this week for Declan Rice after reaching final agreement with West Ham tonight. Gunners now expected to give the green light for Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen.”
The Italian further states that Mikel Arteta played a key role in convincing the midfielder to move to the Emirates Stadium and Edu did the rest to agree on a deal in principle with West Ham.
Romano wrote:
“Arsenal finally sign their top target… and huge credits to go Mikel Arteta. Told he did incredible job behind the scenes to make it happen by pushing the Arsenal project on player side since January. Edu never changed strategy even in tense moments. Now, it’s done.”
On the other hand, writing in The Athletic, David Ornstein has suggested that Arsenal will pay a £100m fee in three instalments over the next 24 months.
Rice is an extremely talented player and has already established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the last few years. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal to bolster their engine room.
