Arsenal target Timber ‘desperate’ to move to the Emirates
Arsenal target and Ajax Amsterdam star Jurrien Timber is ‘really desperate’ to move to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
It has been suggested that the Gunners have prioritised bolstering their engine room this summer and are in advanced talks with West Ham United to sign Declan Rice.
It has been reported that along with the midfield, defence is an area that Mikel Arteta is keen on reinforcing and the North London club have identified Timber as an ideal option.
Arsenal initially submitted a £30m bid to sign the Netherlands international after agreeing on personal terms with the player. But, the Eredivisie giants rejected the offer as they were demanding a fee of around £50m.
However, it appears Ajax have decided to lower their asking price as Arsenal’s second bid of around £40m, including bonuses, has reportedly been accepted by the Dutch side and the player is now set to undergo medical at the London Colony before the deal gets finalised.
Timber to Arsenal
Now, speaking on The Debrief, Romano has reported that Timber has been sold by the Gunners’ project and he only wanted to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The journalist further claims that the 22-year-old is ‘really desperate’ to play under Arteta and the youngster is convinced that Arsenal is the perfect destination for his development.
Romano said:
“Timber only wanted Arsenal and only wants Arsenal, so he’s really desperate to join Arsenal. He’s convinced that this is the perfect project for him and for his future.”
Despite Ajax’s struggle last term, Timber enjoyed a promising campaign, scoring twice and keeping nine clean-sheets in 34 Eredivisie appearances.
The Netherlands international is a centre-back by traits but can also be deployed in the right-back position. He is quick, technically sound, comfortable playing out from the back, excellent in defensive contributions and also reads the game extremely well.
The 22-year-old is an extremely talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s possession-based style of football. So, Timber would be an excellent signing for Arsenal and the youngster’s addition would certainly strengthen their backline.
