Arsenal are reportedly plotting a January swoop for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercato.it.

The Gunners appear to be looking to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window, with the midfield being one of the positions where Mikel Arteta seemingly wants to add more options.

The north London club have already been linked with several players ahead of the winter window, while Rabiot has recently emerged as a new potential target.

According to the report by Calciomercato.it, Juventus are also looking to reinforce their squad in the winter window and they are open to cashing in on Rabiot in order to raise their transfer budget.

The report further claims that Arsenal are eyeing a move for the France international, however, they are set to face competition from Premier League rival Newcastle United to sign the 27-year-old.

The report also says that the Bianconeri could ask for a fee of around £17m or demand Albert Sambi Lokonga in a swap deal to sell Rabiot this January. The former PSG man’s price has now been increased after his eye-catching performances so far at the World Cup.

Rabiot – valued at around £15m by Transfermarkt – is set to enter the final six months of his current contract and he is yet to agree on signing a new deal with Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

Therefore, Arsenal could be handed a golden opportunity to sign the midfielder for a bargain fee this January. He is technically gifted, can play anywhere across the middle of the park, has the ability to play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals and is dynamic enough to play in a high-pressing system.

So, Rabiot would be an ideal acquisition to play in Arteta’s first eleven and would certainly strengthen the midfield department if he were to join the club this January. However, the midfielder has previously been accused of having an attitude problem and Arsenal should keep that in mind before making a move for him. Taking a risk of potentially damaging the squad harmony might not be a wise decision.

Therefore, although Rabiot is a talented player and has the ability to play for any elite team, Arsenal may be better off looking at alternative targets to strengthen the engine room this winter.
