Arsenal eyeing move for Spain youngster Nico Williams

Arsenal could reportedly be ‘tempted’ to make a swoop for Athletic Bilbao youngster Nico Williams, as per the Spanish outlet Goal Espana.
The 20-year-old came through the Lions’ academy before making his senior debut last year. The forward has been a regular starter at San Mamés this campaign, scoring three goals and notching up as many assists in 14 La Liga appearances.
Following a promising start to this term, the Bilbao man has been called up to Spain’s squad for the ongoing Qatar World Cup. The youngster was involved in La Roja’s opening two fixtures, against Costa Rica and Germany, as a second-half substitute and showcased glimpses of his talent on the biggest stage of world football.
According to the report by Goal Espana, having displayed eye-catching performances with the national team in Qatar, Williams has attracted attention from big European clubs. Arsenal have been mentioned as one of the teams who have expressed their interest in signing him in the upcoming transfer window.
Nico Williams to Arsenal
The report further claims that the Spaniard has a €50m (£43m) release clause included in his current contract and the reported sum could entice Mikel Arteta’s side to make a move. However, the Gunners would face a stern challenge to sign Williams, given PSG and two Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on his development.
Arsenal appear to be looking to reinforce their flanks this January and Nico Williams would be a great acquisition. The 20-year-old is quick, works hard off the ball, and can wriggle past the opposition defenders in tight areas.
The Spain international is a left-footed forward who likes to be deployed in the right-wing position. So, he would be able to be deputies for Bukayo Saka if he were to join the club.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal would make a move for him in January or next summer. Williams possesses great quality and would certainly be a shrewd addition to Arteta’s squad. The reported £43m fee could turn out to be a bargain if he can be nurtured and helped to reach his full potential.
