Norway boss delivers concerning news on Odegaard injury

Norway manager Stale Solbakken has provided concerning news regarding Arsenal ace Martin Odegaard’s injury.
The 23-year-old started the new campaign brilliantly, scoring three goals in seven appearances in all competitions. However, the damning news emerged last Sunday that the Norwegian picked up a calf injury in training that kept him out of action in the last game against Brentford right before the international break.
Fabio Vieira replaced the former Real Madrid man against Thomas Frank’s side and Arsenal came away with an impressive win. However, the injury to Odegaard is a real concern for Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of the derby against Tottenham Hotspur just after the hiatus.
Speaking on TV2 (via Express), Solbakken has revealed that the Arsenal star hasn’t joined the national team squad ahead of Norway’s Nations League fixtures during this international break and the midfielder is currently under the observation of Arsenal’s medical department.
The manager further says that Odegaard ‘is not feeling well’ at the moment and the Norway boss is constantly in dialogue with the Gunners’ medical team in order to understand the player’s situation.
Injury to Odegaard
Solbakken said:
“We are in regular dialogue with him and (Mikel) Arteta and Arsenal’s health sector, as it is called in Danish. Nothing has been decided there, so there is still hope. They are the ones who have had “hands on him” up until now, and they are in dialogue.
“The possibilities of Ødegaard coming to Norway in one way or another are good. He is not feeling well now. Now it is necessary to get a final decision on whether he can take part in both or one of the games. We will certainly see him in Norway, either as a player or “fourth coach”.
Arsenal’s casualty list has been continuing to increase in recent weeks. After the injuries to Mohamed Elneny, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson; Oleksandr Zinchenko and Martin Odegaard have now also suffered injuries during this busy period. Zinchenko just returned from a knee issue before sustaining a fresh injury to his calf.
However, the good news is that Thomas Partey has recovered from his thigh problem and started the last game against Brentford. So, the Ghanaian’s return will be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Fixtures will become even more congested from next month as Arsenal will have to play twice every week relentlessly until the World Cup. So, it will be interesting to see how the north London club can manage to cope with the demand of this season amidst their injury problems.
