Zinchenko undergoing Arsenal medical ahead of move from Man City

According to the Evening Standard, Oleksandr Zinchenko is at Arsenal’s training base in Florida undergoing his medical and finalising a £32m move from Manchester City.

Arsenal have been searching for a new left-back this summer and turned their attention to Zinchenko after failing to land Lisandro Martinez – who’s joining Manchester United.

After holding talks with Man City last week a deal was finally agreed between the two clubs with Arsenal paying an initial £30m, although the fee could reach £32m with add-ons [source: Standard].

Zinchenko said his goodbyes to the Manchester City squad on Tuesday and flew to Orlando to link-up with Arsenal on their pre-season tour of Florida.

The Evening Standard says the 25-year-old has now arrived at Arsenal’s training base to undergo his medical and finalise his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Zinchenko is set to sign a four-year contract and will become Arsenal’s fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Gabriel Jesus.

Guardiola confirms move

City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed Zinchenko is joining Arsenal at his press conference today, telling reporters, as per the Standard:

“Zinchenko, like Gabriel [Jesus] and Raheem [Sterling], the impact of these three players has been massive, incredible people and exceptional players, they move on, Chelsea and Arsenal are incredible clubs, I’m happy for the success they’ll have there.”

“It was nice yesterday with Oleks because we could say bye properly. Unfortunately with Raheem and Gabriel we could not do it because it was the summer time. But yesterday we could have dinner together, we could say bye to him and move on to Arsenal.”

Zinchenko has mainly been deployed at left-back by Guardiola and is likely to provide competition to Kieran Tierney – who’s struggled with injuries over the past two years.

However, the Ukrainian international is also comfortable playing in central midfield and has shone for his country in that role, so we could see him played on the left of a midfield three at Arsenal.

Zinchenko should prove to be an excellent signing as he’s a top class player who will fit into Arteta’s system perfectly. He will also bring a winning mentality having won 4 Premier League titles and 5 domestic cups during his time at City.

His arrival is likely to see Nuno Tavares heading out on loan with Marseille reportedly keen.
