Arteta provides update on Tierney & Partey

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Brighton tomorrow.
It was confirmed last weekend that Tierney has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury during the recent international break.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference today ahead of Saturday’s visit of Brighton to the Emirates Stadium, Arteta has offered an update to confirm that Tierney has now had surgery. It’s still too early to determine how long the Scottish international will be on the sidelines for, but Tierney will obviously not play again this season.
In a huge double blow, Partey is also facing a race against time to play during the run-in after aggravating a thigh injury during Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Arteta says the Ghana midfielder will be out for ‘some weeks’ and admitted Partey may not return in time to play again before the end of the campaign, describing the issue as a ‘significant injury’.
The boss is quoted as saying by Football London:
Arteta on Partey
He [Partey] will be out for some weeks. He could be [back before the season ends] but it could not be the case as it’s an area where he had an injury previously and he felt it straightaway.
It is a little bit ambiguous but he has a significant injury. We have to keep assessing him but he’ll be out for some weeks.
Arteta on Tierney
He’s just had surgery yesterday. It’s very early to understand how everything is going to develop. I think the player has to do the maximum to be in the best possible condition as soon as possible.
The player has to do the maximum he can to be in the best possible condition as soon as possible.
So it sounds like the Partey injury is serious and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t play again this season. Or best case he may only play a couple of games at the end of the campaign.
Its a huge blow, and together with Tierney being ruled out for the rest of the season, it’s difficult not to see these injuries as potentially derailing our pursuit of fourth place.
Had we kept Partey and Tierney fit, I was confident we’d get fourth. But now Arsenal have to rely on Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga, and pray no other key players get injured over the coming weeks. It’s a big ask of the youngsters, especially Tavares as he’s looked out of his depth in recent performances.
There was no update from Arteta on Takehiro Tomiyasu today but the right-back is expected to miss at least another two matches due to a calf injury, so Arsenal will be without three first team regulars against Brighton tomorrow.
