My Arsenal line-up vs West Ham

Arsenal can climb into the top four with a win over West Ham at the Emirates on Wednesday night. This is the line-up I’d like to see Mikel Arteta select for the match…

Aaron Ramsdale has arguably been our best player this season so he’s a certain starter in goal while I think the back four is also fairly simple to select.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been every present at right-back while Ben White and Gabriel have formed an excellent understanding in the middle of Arsenal’s defence. Left-back is perhaps the only contentious place as Nuno Tavares has impressed at times but I’d opt for Kieran Tierney all day long.

Thomas Partey put-in an improved display against Southampton but he’s still well off his best. That said, I’d still stick with him in the middle of the park against West Ham tomorrow night.

Granit Xhaka has made a swift return to action following a miraculous recovery from a knee injury and I’d pick him ahead of Albert Sambi Lokonga as we need his leadership in the team right now.

Laca starts

Martin Odegaard is showing some terrific form so he’s nailed on to start for Arsenal in the No.10 role. Emile Smith Rowe is pushing for a recall and I’d bring him back into the side on the left flank.

Gabriel Martinelli has been excellent since coming into the starting eleven but he’s been carrying a few niggles so I’d give him a rest with 21-year-old Smith Rowe recalled in attack. Bukayo Saka should keep his place on the wing while it looks like Alexandre Lacazette is set for an extended run up front.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out of the Arsenal squad and stripped of the captaincy following another rule breach so it appears his career at the Emirates could be coming to an end with January on the horizon. It’s a hugely disappointing situation and fans will understandably point to similarities with Mesut Ozil. Let’s hope for a swifter resolution this time around.
