Arteta says Kieran Tierney could return for Arsenal’s clash with Watford
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has provided a positive update on Kieran Tierney’s fitness with the full-back in-line to make his return from injury against Watford this weekend.
Tierney has missed Arsenal’s last two games against Aston Villa and Leicester City due to an ankle injury that he sustained during the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last month.
A team news update on Arsenal.com last night confirmed that Tierney is still being assessed ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Watford at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Arteta has provided his own update on the 24-year-old and confirmed Tierney has been in training for the past two days. The Gunners boss says the defender is feeling ‘much better’ so he’s hopeful Tierney will be available to face the Hornets on Sunday afternoon.
Much better
According to The Athletic, Arteta said:
“Kieran has been training the last two days, he’s been much better so hopefully he will be available,”
It would be a big boost for Arsenal if Tierney is passed fit this weekend but Nuno Tavares has filled-in well during the Scottish international’s absence so Arteta may have a decision to make if both are fit.
Granit Xhaka is the only other injury concern for Arsenal with the midfielder still working his way back from a knee ligament injury that he sustained against Tottenham in late September.
The club are hopeful the Swiss international will be back in full training during the early stages of the New Year but Xhaka is set to miss the entire festive period.
Arsenal head into the weekend action sitting sixth in the Premier League table following the win at Leicester last weekend so they’ll want to close-in on the top four with another win at home to Watford.
