Reliable journalist: Arsenal keen on signing £51m hitman who scored 21 goals last season
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are eyeing a move for £51m-rated Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic but will face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
Mikel Arteta has completed three major signings so far this summer with left-back Nuno Tavares, centre-back Ben White and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga all arriving in deals totalling over £70m.
However, we still desperately need further new additions and attacking reinforcements should be a priority as our struggles in the final third from the last campaign have continued during pre-season.
Arsenal have been tipped to sign a new striker before the window closes at the end of the month and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham has been strongly linked but we’ve so far been unable to agree terms with our London rivals.
If we can’t strike a deal for Abraham, then we could turn our attention to signing Vlahovic as reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims Arsenal are showing an interest in the Fiorentina striker.
Vlahovic is one of the most exciting young attackers in Italian football and netted 21 goals in 37 Serie A games last season while he’s also a regular for the Serbian national team having represented his country at various youth levels.
Understandably, Fiorentina are desperate to keep hold of the 21-year-old and hope to tie him down to a new contract but Di Marzio says they would reluctantly cash-in if £51m [€60m] was put on the table.
That would make Vlahovic even more expensive than Abraham so it’s not clear whether Arsenal would be able to afford him. Particularly as we also need to sign another goalkeeper and No.10 this summer.
Price wouldn’t be the only stumbling block as Di Marzio claims that Tottenham are also showing a keen interest in Vlahovic as they look for potential replacements for Harry Kane while Atletico Madrid are showing interest from Spain.
So Arsenal would face stiff competition if we did firm up our pursuit of Vlahovic but he’d arguably be a more exciting signing than Abraham as he has the potential to be a much better player than the Chelsea hitman.
Let’s see how things progress but if Arsenal do buy a striker, I have a feeling we may end up signing Abraham on loan with an option/obligation to buy next season.
