22-year-old decides to join Arsenal, wants possible £27.1m deal wrapped-up asap

According to La Voix Du Nord, Gabriel Magalhaes has decided he wants to join Arsenal and is keen for a potential £27.1m deal to be wrapped-up as soon as possible.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is expected to be busy reshuffling his squad over the coming weeks and I think it’s clear we need to strengthen at the back as we conceded 48 goals last season on the way to finishing 8th in the table.

Hopefully William Saliba will hit the ground running as he’s highly-rated while Arsenal have also signed Pablo Mari on a permanent basis but I still think we need another centre-back as Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz, Rob Holding and Sokratis just aren’t good enough.

Arteta is going to be working from a tight budget in the market but if we can offload one or two defenders to raise some extra funds, then we should have enough money to sign another centre-back and Gabriel has emerged as a serious target.

The 22-year-old has been linked with Manchester United and Napoli but recent reports suggested that Arsenal have moved into pole position after the players agent travelled to London for talks with potential suitors.

It looks like we may have won the race for his signature as La Voix Du Nord are now reporting that Gabriel has decided he wants to join Arsenal following talks the club earlier this week and is keen for the move to be concluded as soon as possible.

The French publication claims Lille want around £27.1m [€30m] for the Brazilian’s signature and things could progress over the coming days – although the report also suggests that Man Utd could yet make a late move to derail things.

So Arsenal may want to push ahead with a deal quickly to avoid being gazumped and Gabriel would be an exciting addition to the squad if we could get this proposed transfer over the line.

The South American has developed into one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in France since joining Lille three years ago and he could form a rock solid partnership alongside Saliba for the next decade at Arsenal if things go to plan.
