Arsenal make offer to sign 21-year-old French star – Marca

Arsenal have made an offer to sign French defender Malang Sarr on a free transfer but will face competition from RB Leipzig, according to Marca.

Mikel Arteta knows he needs to strengthen the squad this summer if we’re to get back in the top four next season and defence has continued to be an area of concern this campaign having conceded 42 goals in 34 games.

Sokratis has fallen out of favour under Arteta, Rob Holding is struggling to rediscover his best form following a serious knee injury and Shkodran Mustafi’s long-term future at Arsenal remains unclear despite his upturn in form recently.

Pablo Mari has joined on a permanent deal from Flamengo and William Saliba will arrive from Saint-Etienne but Arsenal are still being tipped to bring in another centre-back this summer and it seems Sarr has emerged as a target.

Spanish outlet Marca claims Arsenal have offered the 21-year-old a contract to sign him on a free transfer this summer but we’ll face competition from RB Leipzig for his signature. The defender is available for nothing after he allowed his deal with Nice to run out at the end of June having failed to agree terms over a new contract.

Sarr came through the youth ranks at Nice and has made 119 first team appearances since making the break through four years ago while he’s earned eight caps for the French U21 team having played for his country at every youth level.

The youngster is certainly a big talent and looks to have a bright future ahead of him so it would be an excellent move if Arsenal could win the race for his signature and lure him to north London.

Arteta is going to be working on a tight budget this summer and landing a highly-rated centre-back on a free transfer would be a shrewd piece of business if the club could pull it off.

Also, it would allow Arsenal to spend our kitty on strengthening other areas of the squad with a midfielder and attacker also thought to be on the agenda so the Sarr deal would make a lot of sense.
