Arsenal star ruled out for 3 months + 3 other fresh fitness concerns revealed
Arsenal have confirmed Kieran Tierney is facing a spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder during our win at West Ham on Monday night.
Tierney was forced off midway through the first half after falling awkwardly in the area and he was immediately sent to hospital for scans. The club have confirmed the left-back has dislocated his right shoulder but say he’ll continue to be assessed before a timeframe over his recovery is known. However, the Evening Standard claim Tierney has been ruled out for around 3 months which means he won’t be back in action until March, which is a HUGE blow.
Arsenal’s win at the London Stadium was hugely costly as Hector Bellerin, Nicolas Pepe and Granit Xhaka also picked up knocks during the 3-1 comeback victory over West Ham.
Bellerin was forced to pull out of the game after hurting his hamstring in the warm-up and he’s a doubt for the Man City game after being ruled out of tomorrow night’s Europa League clash with Standard Liege.
Pepe will also sit out the trip to Belgium after picking up a knee injury against the Hammers and he’ll need to be assessed ahead of Sunday’s huge Premier League showdown with City.
Xhaka was substituted late on against West Ham after suffering concussion and the midfielder will miss at least our next two games so Freddie Ljungberg’s options in midfield are limited with Dani Ceballos still unavailable with a hamstring problem.
Arsenal have also provided an update on Rob Holding and they’ve revealed the defender is aiming to resume full training in two weeks after missing the last four games with a knee injury.
Here is what the team news update on Arsenal.com said today:
Hector Bellerin
Tight right hamstring. Will miss Standard Liege (a). Being assessed ahead of Manchester City (h) on Sunday.Dani Ceballos
Left hamstring. Sustained during the Vitoria SC (a) match on November 6. Aiming to return to full training in mid-December.Rob Holding
Left knee. Bruising to knee. Will miss Standard Liege (a). Aiming to return to full training in next two weeks.Nicolas Pepe
Left knee. Bruising to knee sustained during West Ham United (a). Will miss Standard Liege (a). Will be assessed ahead of Manchester City (h).Kieran Tierney
Right shoulder. Dislocated right shoulder during the West Ham United (a) match. Currently undergoing further assessment and investigations.Granit Xhaka
Concussion. Sustained strike to the head from the ball during West Ham United (a). Will miss Standard Liege (a) and Man City (h) and will be managed as per concussion protocols.
It’s a sickening blow for Tierney to suffer this dislocated shoulder as he’s only recently returned to full fitness following a groin injury and he’s now facing 3 more months on the sidelines.
Let’s hope Bellerin and Pepe are able to make swift recoveries and get themselves in contention to face Man City on Sunday as the injuries are starting to pile-up as we head into the busy Christmas and New Year period.
