Player to undergo medial after Arsenal agree personal terms over 5-year contract
According to various sources, Nicolas Pepe is set to undergo his medical with Arsenal after agreeing personal terms over a five-year contract ahead of a £72m move from Lille.
News broke over the weekend that Arsenal were closing-in on a deal to sign Pepe with the BBC one of several outlets to report we’d agreed a fee worth around £72m [€80m] with the Ligue 1 club.
The report said all that remained was for Arsenal to strike an agreement with the 24-year-old’s camp and the Guardian now claim Pepe has agreed personal terms over a five-year contract.
Sky Sports News says the Ivory Coast international will undergo his medical in the next couple of days and as long as there are no complications, Pepe will be an Arsenal player by the end of the week.
French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi supports Sky Sport’s claim as he says Pepe will have his medical in North London on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning while RMC Sport are also reporting that the attackers move to Arsenal is imminent after he snubbed Napoli for a move to the Emirates.
These various reports come after Pepe was spotted flying out of Miami airport on Sunday night after enjoying a summer break following his exploits at the AFCON and it looks he was heading to France before making his way to London for his medical.
Let’s pray there are no late complications as Pepe would be a superb addition to the squad and it would be a huge statement of intent from Arsenal to smash our club transfer record to sign one of the hottest talents in Europe.
The 24-year-old provided 22 goals and 12 assists for Lille last season and although he’s left-footed, he prefers to play on the right wing and cut in from the flank so he’ll give us something different in attack.
Pepe’s also comfortable playing up front so he’ll give Emery plenty of options and there is no doubt that Pepe, Aubameyang and Lacazette would be one of the most exciting front three’s in Europe.
It looks like it’s going to be a huge few days for Arsenal and I hope Emery goes all-out for Kieran Tierney and another established centre-back once we wrap-up Pepe’s transfer.
