[Photos] Arsenal boost as 26-year-old returns to training ahead of Tottenham game
Arsenal appear to have been handed a timely injury boost as Shkodran Mustafi was pictured out on the training pitches ahead of Wednesday nights clash with Tottenham.
We welcome our North London rivals to the Emirates tomorrow night in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup and Mustafi was considered a doubt for the game due to a hamstring injury.
The German defender suffered the problem during our 1-0 win over Huddersfield earlier this month and he missed our last two games against Qarabag and Southampton [although he was also suspended for the trip to St Mary’s].
A team news update on Arsenal.com on Tuesday morning suggested that Mustafi would be assessed ahead of our League Cup clash with Tottenham before his availability was determined.
It looks like he could be in contention as the 26-year-old has been photographed out on the training pitches with the rest of the Arsenal squad at London Colney this afternoon.
With Rob Holding out for the season, Dinos Mavropanos still sidelined by a groin injury and Laurent Koscielny clearly still rusty from his seven months out, it will be a big boost to have Mustafi available again.
However, there was no sign of Hector Bellerin – who picked up a calf problem against Southampton – while Sead Kolasinac was also not seen in any of the photographs from today’s session so it looks like he’s still out with a thigh injury.
Here are some snaps from Tuesday’s training session ahead of the Spurs game:
