Another Mislintat gem? Arsenal eyeing swoop for Tunisian international
According to a report in the Express, Arsenal are eyeing a summer swoop for highly-rated Nice midfielder Bassem Srarfi after scouting the Tunisian international earlier this week.
Unai Emery has arrived as our new head coach and he knows he needs to strengthen the squad he inherited from former manager Arsene Wenger after we finished sixth in the league last season.
Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has been tasked with heading-up our our summer transfer business and a number of players have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks.
However, a new name has emerged today as the Express are citing a report from Foot Mercato that claims Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing Nice midfielder Bassem Srarfi.
The 20-year-old has become one of the hottest talents in French football since joining Nice last summer as he enjoyed an impressive debut season in Ligue last season having made 35 appearances in all competitions.
Srarfi’s potential has also been recognised at international level as he’s been capped at senior level by Tunisia and played a part in their 2-2 comeback draw against Portugal in Braga on Monday night.
The report says Arsenal scouts were in attendance at the Estadio Municipal de Braga to watch Srarfi in action ahead of a potential swoop but we could face competition from Leicester as the Foxes have also been showing an interest.
Srarfi is predominantly a right-sided attacker but he can play across any of the attacking midfield positions so his versatility would be a useful asset if we did end up bringing him to the Emirates.

The youngster has been included in the Tunisia squad for this summers World Cup finals so we may want to make our move soon if we do want to sign him as a positive showing in Russia will only increase competition for his signature and his price-tag.
I doubt he’d be considered a first team regular just yet but he’s one of the most exciting young talents in Europe so he’d be ‘one for the future’ if Arsenal do decide to snap him up this summer.
