Confirmed: Arsenal announce Unai Emery as new head coach

It’s official. Arsenal have announced Unai Emery as our new Head Coach with the 46-year-old replacing Arsene Wenger in the Emirates hot-seat.

We’ve been on the look out for a new manager after Wenger confirmed last month that he would walk away from the club following a disappointing campaign.

After 22-years with the same manager, it was never going to be easy to find a replacement and Arsenal have certainly conducted a thorough recruitment process.

Mikel Arteta was the front-runner and was expected to be announced as the new manager but shock developments on Monday saw Emery emerge as the favourite.

News leaked that Ivan Gazidis had got cold feet over appointing the inexperienced Arteta and the clubs hierarchy instead opted to go with Emery.

It’s now official with the club announcing on Arsenal.com that Emery has been appointed as our new ‘Head Coach’ and the Spaniard told the clubs website:

“I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game. Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run. I’m very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal’s history. I have met Stan and Josh Kroenke and it’s clear they have great ambitions for the club and are committed to bringing future success. I’m excited about what we can do together and I look forward to giving everyone who loves Arsenal some special moments and memories.”

Emery enjoyed an excellent spell at Sevilla where he won three consecutive Europa League titles before joining paris Saint-Germain in 2016 and he won the treble in France this year.

He certainly has far more experience compared to Arteta and I think it’s a safer appointment at this time for Arsenal. It would have been a huge risk to go for Arteta.

Emery will bring a fresh approach, he’s tactically astute and works hard on the opposition so I’m excited to see what he can do with this Arsenal squad.
