Arsenal ready to meet asking price to sign £60m attacker, player willing to move
According to reports in France via TeamTalk, Arsenal are willing to pay the £60m that’ll be required to sign Anthony Martial but we’ll face stiff competition for the Man Utd attacker.
Martial has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under Jose Mourinho this season and he’s fallen even further down the pecking order since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival in January.
The French international has started just 16 league games and hasn’t made Mourinho’s first eleven since being publicly criticised by the United boss following their 2-0 FA Cup win over Brighton a month ago.
Speculation in recent weeks has suggested Martial is growing increasingly frustrated with his role at Old Trafford and will look for a fresh challenge at the end of the season.
It seems Arsene Wenger is eyeing an audacious move as TeamTalk are citing a report from Le10Sport that claims Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing Martial this summer and are willing to meet United’s reported £60m asking price.
Juventus are named as the front-runners but the French publication says Martial will make it clear to United he wants to stay in the Premier League and Le10Sport name Arsenal as one of the clubs he’s willing to join – along with Chelsea or Spurs.
It’s difficult to know what to make of these reports but I personally have my doubts over the reported ‘£60m asking price’ as surely United would want more than that for Martial in today’s market?
However, if he is available for that price then we should be all over it. Martial is a supreme talent and he’s never going to reach his potential playing under Mourinho. Just ask Salah and De Bruyne.
He’d offer something different to what we have in attack right now and I’d love to see the 22-year-old playing alongside the likes of Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette and Mkhitaryan next season.
However, I still think a deal is highly unlikely to happen as United will do all they can to sell abroad if Martial demands to leave. Plus, even if he does get his wish of joining a Premier League rival, we’ll face plenty of competition for his signature.
