Arsenal boss offers positive injury update on Mkhitaryan
Arsene Wenger offered a positive injury update on Henrikh Mkhitaryan after suggesting the attacker will return in just two weeks time.
Mkhitaryan limped out of our Europa League first leg victory over CSKA Moscow last week after picking up a knee injury during the early stages of the second half.
The Armenian international was immediately ruled out of our Premier League clash with Southampton while he underwent scans to determine the full extent of the problem.
Wenger initially suggested the attacker would be out for two to three weeks but the Mirror reported earlier this week that Mkhitaryan’s injury was worse than first thought and he’d been ruled out until the end of the league season.
However, it looks like those reports were wide of the mark as Wenger has now confirmed that the 29-year-old is taking his rehab seriously and will be back in two weeks.
Speaking after last night’s 2-2 draw in Moscow that booked our place in the last four of the Europa League, Wenger told Arsenal.com:
“He has a medial ligament strain, he should be out for two more weeks. Do not be too worried. We have a very good medical staff and he is very serious in his rehab.”
Miki will miss the trip to Newcastle on Sunday, the visit of West Ham to the Emirates next weekend and will be facing a race against time to make the first leg of our Europa League semi-final.
However, if all goes to plan then he should be ready to face Man Utd on April 29th and play in the Europa League second leg four days later – which will be a major boost.
