Arsenal to launch £25m bid for Bundesliga star as Mislintat kicks-off summer revamp
According to a report by TeamTalk, Arsenal are ready to make a £25m bid for Bayer Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno after Sven Mislintat identified him as the man to replace Petr Cech.
Mislintat has been quick to make his mark since arriving at the Emirates as our new Head of Recruitment as he played a key role in securing the signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The German chief has been tasked with finding our targets ahead of the summer transfer window and a new number one is understood to be a top priority due to the poor form of Cech.
The Czech legend has made several high profile errors this season and as he’ll turn 36 in May, we need to bring in a long-term replacement and it seems Leno has emerged as a prime candidate.
The 26-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks and TeamTalk are citing a report from the Sun that claims Arsenal are ready to table a £25m bid for the Leverkusen stopper.
Leno is under contract until 2020 but it’s reported that he’ll consider his future this summer and Arsenal are hoping to get a deal in place before the transfer window reopens in July.
There is no doubt we need to sign a new keeper this summer and Leno would be an excellent addition so I’d love to see us get a deal wrapped-up soon so we can concentrate on strengthening other areas of the squad.
However, we aren’t the only club in the running for his signature as the report says Napoli and Roma are also chasing Leno so we better hope he doesn’t fancy a move to Italy over London.
