Arsenal eyeing swoop for Norwegian international attacker [ESPN]

According to ESPN, Arsenal are eyeing a summer swoop for Basel attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi but could face competition from the likes of Leicester and Southampton.

Arsene Wenger eased the pressure on his shoulders with a huge 2-0 victory over AC Milan in the Europa League last night but he’s still expected to overhaul his squad this summer – if he manages to hold on to his job.

Either way, whoever is in charge at the end of the season needs to make changes to the squad and we desperately need to add some width as we have NO wingers at present.

It seems we’re already lining-up some targets as ESPN claim that Arsenal are weighing-up a summer swoop for Basel winger Elyounoussi after keeping a close eye on him this season.

The 23-year-old has been in excellent form for Basel having provided 7 goals and 13 assists so far this campaign and he was named MOTM after scoring during a 2-1 win over Manchester City earlier this week.

Elyounoussi also played a key role in helping Basel qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League after they finished runners-up to Manchester United in Group A.

We saw first hand how much potential the Norwegian international has as Elyounoussi impressed against Arsenal in the group stages of the Champions League last season and ESPN claim we’ve been tracking him ever since.

A summer move could now be on the cards and his agent, Ferhat Cifici, has confirmed he has meetings planned with several clubs as interest in the winger continues to grow.

Cifici is quoted as saying by ESPN:

“I don’t want to speak specifically about certain clubs, but there are lots of teams interested in Mohamed. He was man-of-the-match against Manchester City and I know some clubs went to watch him in that game.

“His performances for Basel have made a lot of teams sit up and take notice of him and what he can do at the highest level.

“The boy is ready to make the next step in his career and I have a lot of meetings planned with clubs so we will see what happens.”

Elyounoussi is predominantly a left winger but he can play anywhere across the attacking midfield positions so he’d be a very useful player if we were to sign him this summer.
