Arsenal looking to sign Italian international in £27m deal
According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal have joined the chase to sign Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante but will face stiff competition for the £27m-rated Italian.
Arsene Wenger’s future at the club is in serious doubt following a disastrous campaign but no matter who’s in charge this summer we need to do some major squad restructuring.
A new central midfielder is definitely needed as Santi Cazorla’s career is probably over, Jack Wilshere is yet to sign a new deal, Granit Xhaka has been a nightmare signing while Aaron Ramsey will have just one year left on his deal this summer.
It looks like Arsenal chiefs are already drawing up a list of potential targets as the Mirror are citing a report from TuttoSport that claims we’ve joined the chase to sign Cristante.
The 23-year-old has been hugely impressive since joining on loan from Benfica last summer as he’s scored 10 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign.
He’s also broken in to the Italian national team squad ahead of the World Cup finals and the report says he’s valued at around £27m – which seems like a reasonable price in today’s market.
However, we aren’t the only club in the running for his signature as the Mirror claims that Liverpool, West Ham and Watford are also interested so we’ll have to fend off several Premier League clubs.
Let’s see how things progress but as much as we desperately need to sign a central midfielder, I think the priority needs to be changing the manager as whoever replaces Wenger will have his own targets in mind.
