Arsenal in battle to sign £25m Brazilian attacker

According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal will face stiff competition from not only Spurs but also from Chinese Super League clubs for the signature of Watford attacker Richardlison.

The Brazilian youngster has made a huge impact since joining Watford from Fluminense in an £11.5m deal last summer with the winger scoring his 5th goal in 12 games during their 2-0 win over West Ham at the weekend.

Richardlison also impressed during Watford’s 2-1 win against Arsenal earlier in the season and it seems the attacker has left a lasting impression on boss Arsene Wenger.

Reports in the Mirror yesterday claimed that Arsenal had joined Tottenham in the race to sign the 20-year-old as the boss drew-up a list of potential replacements for Alexis Sanchez.

Richardlison is tied to a five-year contract at Vicarage Road so the newspaper suggested it would take a fee of around £25m to persuade Watford to sell in January – which shouldn’t be a problem for a club with the financial firepower of Arsenal.

However, it looks like we’re going to face fresh competition as the paper is reporting today that Chinese clubs are also eyeing Richardlison so there could be a bidding war for his signature if he decides to leave Watford.

Obviously the young South American looks to have a bright future ahead of him so I’d welcome his arrival at the Emirates but I’m not sure he’s ready yet to be considered as a direct replacement for a player like Sanchez.

I’d like to think Arsene would be a bit more ambitious in finding a world class established name to come in once our Chilean super star leaves the club.
