Wenger offers update after Arsenal star suffers injury today + Wilshere latest
Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Francis Coquelin after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth this afternoon.
Coquelin was once again named on the substitutes bench today as Aaron Ramsey continued alongside Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park for what was a must-win game.
The Frenchman was introduced midway through the second half after coming on for Ramsey in the 67th minute but Coquelin was forced off after suffering a hamstring injury with ten minutes to go.
We had to see out the remainder of the game with ten men as Wenger had already made all three substitutes but we still eased to a 3-0 win thanks to a goal from Alexandre Lacazette and a brace from Danny Welbeck.
Wenger has now offered an update on Coquelin to confirm the midfielder has suffered a hamstring injury and while it’s too early to know the full extent of the problem, the boss has already ruled Francis out of next week’s game.
Coquelin’s injury opens the door for Jack Wilshere to make his long-awaited comeback and Wenger says he’s getting stronger in training but he hasn’t decided whether to play him against Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on Francis Coquelin…
He has a hamstring [problem]. I don’t know how bad it is but he’s certainly out for next week’s game.on whether that gives Jack Wilshere a chance…
I told you in the [pre-match] press conference that he’s getting stronger and stronger. The fact that Francis is now out gives him a chance as well.on whether Wilshere could feature on Thursday…
I don’t know yet. He’s not far from that.
He may not be a vital first team regular but Coquelin is a useful player to have off the bench so let’s hope his injury isn’t too serious – although judging by the video of the incident, it looks like the Frenchman may need to be put down!
That's probably the worst dive in premier league history AHAHAH IM ACTUALLY CRYING COQUELIN MATE pic.twitter.com/C0Klr5fZfV
