Arsenal favourites ahead of Man Utd to sign £30k-a-week winger
According to a report in the Express, Arsenal remain favourites to sign Jadon Sancho despite Manchester United entering the race to land the highly-rated Manchester City winger.
Sancho was a product of Watford’s youth system but he joined City two years ago in a £500,000 deal and has developed in to one of the most highly-rated youngsters at the Etihad having starred for their youth sides.
The 17-year-old has also made his mark at international youth level as he was named Player of the Tournament as England reached the final of this summer’s European Under-17 Championships.
Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on the young winger in recent months and was expected to take him on their pre-season tour of the United States only to surprisingly omit him from the squad.
This snub seems to have hit Sancho hard as the Express claim he’s refused to sign a £30,000-a-week, three-year, deal that’s been offered by City and has missed training several times since being left out of their pre-season tour.
The newspaper says the youngster is reluctant to commit his future to the Etihad Stadium as he doesn’t see how he’s going to be given a fair chance to break in to the first team by Guardiola any time soon.
This has alerted Arsenal as The Sun reported earlier this month that Arsene Wenger has been monitoring Sancho’s situation and is hoping to lure him back to north London this summer.
We face some stiff competition as the Express cite a report from the Manchester Evening News that says Man Utd are also pushing hard to land Sancho, but the paper says Arsenal remain the front runners for his signature.
It now seems unlikely that the winger will pen a new deal at City and will instead walk away when his scholarship deal expires, and a move to north London could now be on the cards.

However, if we do win the race for Sancho’s signature, then City would be due compensation for developing him if we can’t agree a fee with our Premier League rivals.
Fans are all excited to see what established first team players Wenger buys this summer but it’s good to see the boss is still looking out for our future and Sancho sounds like he’d be an excellent addition if we could somehow secure a deal.
