Wenger: Arsenal star out until July after ‘simple’ injury
Arsene Wenger feels Jack Wilshere should be back for pre-season training in July after sustaining a ‘simple’ leg fracture last weekend.
Wilshere had been enjoying his season long loan spell at AFC Bournemouth before suffering a hairline fracture to his left leg during their defeat at Tottenham last Saturday.
The 25-year-old limped off following a collision with Harry Kane early in the second half and reports soon emerged that he’d once again suffered a serious injury.
Arsenal confirmed the news yesterday after scans revealed the true extent of the injury and it was feared Jack could be facing several months on the sidelines as the fracture is in the same area as the one that saw him miss the majority of last season.
However, Wenger has now revealed that it looks to be a ‘very simple fracture’ which won’t require any surgery so the boss is hopeful Wilshere will be ready for normal training in July.
Speaking at his press conference this morning, Wenger is quoted as saying by Reuters:
“They think it’s a very simple fracture, that doesn’t need any surgery at all. Hopefully he will be back in July for normal training. But we need patience. Let’s hope that all goes well.
“Until the end of the season he’s a player of Bournemouth but we have a good understanding with the medical staff. The rehab will certainly be made here…because the loan spell ends at the end of the season.”
Obviously it’s good to hear that the fracture is ‘simple’ but don’t judge me for doubting whether Wilshere will be in training in July as he has a habit of taking FAR longer to heal than first anticipated.
This latest injury casts further doubt over Jack’s future at Arsenal as he’s approaching the final year of his deal and it’s difficult to see how the club can offer him a new long-term contract when his body just can’t stay fit for a prolonged period.
