Arsenal star explains why he missed Bayern Munich thrashing
Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has explained his late withdrawal from our 5-1 humiliation against Bayern Munich last night.
Welbeck was initially named in the starting line-up and like many fans, I was excited to see him playing in a front three alongside Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott.
However, Danny was withdrawn from the squad shortly before kick off with Olivier Giroud coming in to replace him up front in the starting eleven.
Fans were left speculating that Welbeck must have picked up a fresh injury in the warm-up, however, thankfully it turns out the forward was just ill.
Welbeck took to Twitter last night to confirm that he isn’t injured but it was illness that left him ‘devastated’ at missing the Champions League clash with Bayern.
No injury, no tweak, just ill at the wrong moment. Devastated I couldn't play tonight.

I was gutted to see Welbeck miss out as I really feel his added pace and movement would have given Bayern even more problems last night than we already caused when we had eleven men on the pitch.
Say what you like, but we were excellent up until Laurent Koscielny got wrongly sent off and we should have been at least 2-0 ahead before the games big turning point.
I honestly believe had Welbeck been playing instead of Giroud we would have added to our advantage before half time and who knows how the game would have turned out.
Sadly the sending off and penalty killed the game but there is no justifying our pathetic collapse once the score got to 1-1. The players threw away all the hard work they put in during the first half by giving up for the last 30 minutes to consign us to another humiliating defeat.
