Arsenal boost: Liverpool star ruled out of crucial showdown
Arsenal have been handed a huge boost after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted that Jordan Henderson is set to miss our crucial clash this weekend.
Henderson missed Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power last night after suffering a foot injury in training last Friday afternoon.
It was initially feared that the Reds skipper may have broken a bone and although scans showed there was only heavy bruising, the midfielder is still set for a spell on the sidelines.
Speaking after last night’s defeat to the Foxes, Jurgen Klopp gave an update on Henderson’s fitness and admitted that his captain is unlikely to return for the visit of Arsenal on Saturday.
Klopp is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“It looks like he will not be ready for Arsenal,”
“That’s how it looks but I’m not sure, we will see.”
The news will come as a boost to Arsenal as Henderson is a key player in Klopp’s starting eleven and they didn’t look the same side without him last night.
German international Emre Can is expected to deputise for Henderson and start alongside Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana this weekend.
We head to Anfield sitting one point above Liverpool in fourth position in the Premier League table so we can cement our position in the top four with a positive result on Saturday evening.
I’m still seeing some fans holding on to hopes of catching Chelsea but I think it’s safe to say our chances of winning the Premier League title are gone for another year. If I were a betting man, I’d rather use my Cheltenham bonus to back a horse at the Gold Cup than put any money on Arsenal lifting the Premier League trophy in May.
However, we do still have plenty left to play for as the battle is on to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next season so let’s hope we can tighten our grip with a win at Liverpool this weekend.
