Wenger confirms fresh injury concern, star out for 3 weeks + duo out
Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media this morning and has given a full team news and injury update ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup third round clash at Preston on Saturday.
Unfortunately the boss revealed that Lucas Perez is a doubt for the game after suffering an ankle injury during his impressive appearance off the bench during our 3-3 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
Perez scored a stunning goal at the Vitality Stadium to bring it back to 3-2 and he would have been hoping to start against Preston this weekend but he’ll now face a late fitness test to see if he’ll be available.
Wenger also confirmed that Francis Coquelin is expected to miss around 3-4 weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during the first half against Bournemouth.
With Santi Cazorla still out and Mohamed Elneny off to the Africa Cup of Nations, Coquelin’s injury is a real blow as it leaves us low on options in the middle of midfield.
The boss also revealed that Theo Walcott is close to making his return after missing the last three games with a calf injury but the attacker won’t be ready to face Preston this weekend.
Kieran Gibbs will also miss the trip to Deepdale as he continues to nurse a knee injury that forced him off against Crystal Palace at the weekend so it looks as though Nacho Monreal will once again start at left-back.
At Colney. Wenger: "We might have a problem with Perez (ankle). Coming back, the closest is Walcott. Gibbs not ready. Coquelin out 3-4 wks."
