Arsenal plotting move for talented 21-year-old defender

By on December 22, 2016

According to the Mirror, Arsene Wenger is plotting a move for Valencia star Jose Gaya as the Arsenal boss looks to bolster his squad with a new left-back next summer.

Nacho Monreal is currently our established first choice left-back but the Spaniard’s form has slipped this season and as he turns 31 in February, it looks as though Wenger is looking for a long-term replacement.

Kieran Gibbs has done little wrong when given the chance to impress this season but the 27-year-old has clearly not convinced the boss he has what it takes to be our regular number one left-back.

The England international has just 18 months left to run on his current contract and with no extension offered as yet, it appears Gibbs’s long-term future at the Emirates is in serious doubt.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise to read that we’re in the market for a new left-back and the Mirror claim that Wenger has identified Jose Gaya as his prime target for next summer.

The 21-year-old has been with Valencia his entire career and is now considered one of Europe’s most promising young defenders after establishing himself as a first team regular 18 months ago.

Gaya has already represented Spain at every youth level from Under-17 to Under-21 and is expected to break in to the senior squad soon, so he’d certainly be an exciting addition to the squad if we could get a deal agreed.
