Arsenal boss reveals huge injury boost – key man to resume training

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed a huge injury boost with the news that Danny Welbeck is due to resume full training within the next week.
Welbeck is yet to play a single minute of competitive football this season as he’s been nursing a serious knee injury which he suffered during our game with Manchester City back in May of last season.
The attacker underwent surgery and has undertaken a lengthy rehabilitation programme over the past seven months before returning to light training at London Colney earlier this month.
It looks like Welbeck is now almost ready to step-up his recovery as Wenger told reporters at his press conference this morning that he’s set to resume full training with the rest of the squad in just one week.
However, understandably after such a long time on the sidelines, the boss says the 26-year-old will need plenty of time to rebuild his match fitness before he’ll be considered available for selection.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail:
‘Danny Welbeck is one week away from completing normal training,’
‘To be back in the squad; that will take some time because he wasn’t played for a long, long time.’
Welbeck only got back to fitness in February 2015 after missing 10 months due to a ligament injury to his left knee and was barely back 2/3 months before he suffered the cartilage damage to his right knee so he’s missed a whole lot of football over the past two seasons.
Therefore, I think it’s safe to say it’s going to take him some time to get back up to speed and I think we’ll see Danny play for the under-23’s before he’ll be back in the first team squad.
Let’s hope his recovery continues to be a smooth one over the coming weeks and we can get Welbeck available in early January as he could be a vital player to have during the second half of the season.
