Arsenal boss offers injury update on Cazorla, Giroud & Elneny
Arsene Wenger has offered an injury update on Mohamed Elneny, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla following last night’s 2-0 League Cup defeat to Southampton.
Elneny went off shortly before half time at the Emirates on Wednesday night and it looked as though the midfielder had suffered an injury as he headed straight down the tunnel with the clubs physio.
However, thankfully those fears have been allayed as Wenger has revealed that the Egyptian international was in fact suffering from a sickness bug which had been troubling him in the run-up to kick off.
Giroud sat out the EFL Cup quarter final clash after suffering a groin problem during the closing stages of Sunday’s Premeir League win over Bournemouth but the good news is it’s only a minor issue and Arsene says the striker could be available to take on West Ham on Saturday evening.
The final update on Cazorla is a little less clear-cut as the boss is still unable to offer any sort of potential comeback date for the Spanish international as he continues to feel the effects of an on-going Achilles injury.
Cazorla has been on the sidelines since aggravating the long-term problem during our 6-0 Champions League win over back in mid-October and Wenger says we have to wait for the inflammation to subside before the midfielder can resume training.
The boss told Arsenal.com:
on Elneny…
He was sick before the game. He decided he felt well enough. I could see after five or 10 minutes that he was not right. He has no medical injury problem, but he has diarrhea or a stomach problem.on Giroud and Cazorla…
Giroud is short, but has a chance to be available for Saturday. Cazorla I don’t know, honestly. It’s just inflammation. It can go in two days, two weeks – I don’t know. He has no setback, the inflammation is just still here. At the moment, it’s stable.
Giroud will certainly be a useful player to have available against West Ham as they are a physical team but surely it’s time to start worrying about Cazorla’s situation? This Achilles injury has already seen him miss our last 9 games and he’ no closer to returning.
We’ve badly missed our little maestro in the middle of the park so let’s pray the inflammation subsides soon and Santi can get back in the team asap.
