Sanchez update: Arsenal handed major boost ahead of Man Utd clash
Arsenal have been handed a major boost ahead of our trip to Manchester United with Goal reporting that Alexis Sanchez is back in training with Chile after a hamstring problem.
Alexis suffered the injury in training last week and was forced to miss Chile’s World Cup qualifying draw with Colombia on Thursday night as he remained in Santiago to undergo treatment.
The injury was initially described as a ‘low-grade’ hamstring problem but there were various reports flying around that he could be facing several weeks out with scans supposedly showing a 9 millimeter tear in the muscle.
Those reports appear to be wide of the mark though as Sanchez has insisted he’ll do all he can to get fit to take on Uruguay in Chile’s crunch qualifier on Tuesday night and it looks like he’s already back in training.
Goal are reporting that Alexis trained with the rest of the Chile squad on Sunday – which is obviously an encouraging sign that the injury isn’t serious – although the report does state that he was wearing a large bandage on his hamstring.
Arsene Wenger has voiced his concern at Sanchez being risked on Tuesday night but with Chile currently sitting outside the automatic qualification spots, boss Juan Antonio Pizzi is expected to call on Alexis even if he’s not 100% fit.
It’s great to see Sanchez is already back in training as it means he should be in contention for next Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford, however, he first needs to come through Tuesday’s game unscathed.
The concern is that Alexis will risk aggravating the muscle injury further by playing in midweek and if he tweaks the hamstring, he could not only miss the United game but he’d be sidelines for several weeks.
Let’s hope common sense prevails and Sanchez isn’t risked by Chile on Tuesday night.
